WAIT!
Before you go running away with your hair on fire because you don’t want to talk about getting old… take a beat here with me and let’s talk. Read just the next 5 paragraphs before deciding to click away. They’re really short.
I
don’t mean to upset or disturb anyone, but, if it hasn’t happened
already there
will come a day when you look in the mirror and wonder
–
“Who the heck is that
old person
staring back at me?”
But,
mirrors don’t lie. I’ve found that the more you run away from anything
the
harder it sticks to you. Ageing (no,
it’s not misspelled) is no
exception, and
it is inevitable.
Think
about it, we’ve all been so busy raising families, building careers,
managing
relationships and making our way through the maze of 21st
Century
living that the days have turned into years, and, well, you know the
rest of
the story.
Just
so you know, I’ve tried the route of being gentle about this subject
but it
just doesn’t work well that way, never has the effect I have hoped for.
People
just don’t want to talk about getting older - even though they are.
So,
now, it’s time to be lovingly direct,
BECAUSE the course of your future
depends
upon it.
Your joy and happiness are at stake!
Like
the mirror that doesn’t lie, this is how life plays out. There is a
Circle of Life
and we each get a turn at every point, ALL the way around.
You've
had your turn as a young person and now it’s your turn to be at this
point of
the circle. It is absolutely within the natural order of
things.
Isn’t that fantastic!!
Here’s
why it’s fantastic:
You
have a choice to make, as do we all, whether to stumble blindly through
the
rest of your life come what may,
OR
Take
a different path and become keenly aware and fully accepting of the
great
circle of life; and be spiritually awed by the journey.
You
still with me here? Hope certainly so. Don’t
give up just yet. There’s some good stuff coming after we get through
the truth
about ageing.
OK,
so what is the truth about ageing?
Here’s
the truth about getting older
On the one hand, ageing sucks.
On the other hand, what choice
do you
have?
On the other hand, do you really want
to squander 25% of your life
being miserable?
And, don’t you really just want to talk
to somebody about getting older?
And,
one final truth -
You’re not
alone!
Like
I said, ageing just ain’t for sissies.
It’s going to probably take all
you’ve
got to get through (maybe even enjoy) the
Fourth Quarter of your life.
It’s
guaranteed that things in your life
will change. How you get through
those
changes is one of the keys to a successful
eldering.
Oh,
did I mention? We don’t like change.
We like the status quo. You've got to
figure
though that a natural law like “change happens” is going to win. Not a
good
idea to butt heads with Mother Nature.
Change
is only the tip of the iceberg.
You
can either:
Live in upset and wonder what’s happening to you,
(We do not recommend this
course of
action.)
OR,
Become aware and accepting of the likely
changes and choose to live the
Fourth
Quarter in tune with the nature of things... and enjoy it.
(We do recommend this course
of
action.)
Is this truth
enough you want to know more? Are you ready for the good stuff?
Attending
an Authentic Ageing Intro Workshop
is the first step to changing the way you look at ageing.
Wouldn't life
be happier if you were in
tune
with this natural process?
Need
more truth? Not a problem. Read on…

Have
you noticed lately that time seems to be compressed. Like there is less
time
ahead of you than behind you.
Certain
things that used to be so important just don't hold the same attention
and interest any more.
Those things have been replaced by much more meaningful things? Meaningful questions? Tons of questions!
There are personal questions about your health - physical, mental
and
financial. These are the real
world questions to consider and are a target in motion.
There
are questions about your life purpose
and the meaning of life.
There
are the undone things that
need attention and completion.
There
are the lingering questions from your
earlier life. You remember, those pesky what if’s, I should’ve,
could’ve
and would’ves, and... what to do about them.
I think the
real challenge in growing old is the not knowing what’s
going to
happen. We may vehemently dislike “change”, but this not knowing how
life is
going to play out could make somebody nuts.
The "what
if’s" really do pile up
- if you
let them.
Funny
thing is that the “not knowing” is no different today than it has ever
been.
You never knew before either. The
difference today is the place on the circle from which you’re looking.
The Circle
of Life is the same, always will be. But, your context has now
shifted to another part of the circle.

We
all know the end game, at least those without Peter Pan Syndrome do. (In
case
you’ve forgotten, Peter Pan never grew older.) Dealing with all
"The Stuff" between now and the finish line is quietly residing in the
back of
your
mind.
How
much do you do to avoid, deny, ignore, and distract yourself from the
elephant
in the room? By the way, you know you take the transparent
elephant with
you
everywhere you go, right?
By keeping
active you avoid thinking about the future as a senior
- until it is thrust upon you by change and you are then forced to
think about it.
When
something is thrust upon us we lose control, it's unpleasnt, and it
sounds scary... UNLESS you are prepared
for change.
Remember,
like I said, change
WILL happen.
Wait a minute, how do you prepare for change when you don’t know, can't know, what or when change is going to happen?
Yeah, it's
perplexing for sure. And...
